“I’m often asked, ‘why the name REMwell?” says Rachel Milano, Founding Director of the REMwell Foundation, Inc. According to her, she took it from the term Rapid Eye Movement (REM) where people are in a state of dreaming. Through her foundation’s work, she hopes to help Traumatic Violation Survivors (TVS)—victims of abuse, neglect, and maltreatment—”arrive at a place within their restoration process where they can Dream Well.”

Founded in 2007, REMwell has done a lot for TVS with the help of its fundraising board that is comprised of TVS as well as loved ones of survivors or those who have departed. “We aim to support very specific advocacy goals which promote projects, campaigns and materials that achieve social re-education on the detrimental socio-economic impacts that Traumatic Violations have on societies general welfare and development,” says Rachel.

In addition to REMwell’s other efforts, Rachel also makes herself available from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. for her “QuickCall” service. It is where she provides support to struggling survivors to get them out of a bad situation through a quick 15-minute after-hours call, something that she has done over the past seven years.

The Mill has been the ideal base of operations for Rachel’s foundation. She says,“We are new but we chose this location because it offers expansion options for the structure of the REMwell Foundation.”
